Course Overview

We accept both beginners and students with some knowledge of Spanish, and in your first year we teach you in classes appropriate to your linguistic level. Your second year is normally spent studying at one of our carefully selected partner universities in Spain or Latin America to enhance fluency and cultural awareness. In addition to a language module each year, you complete a portfolio of modules exploring the literatures and cultures of the Hispanic world, often presented in comparative perspective. These may include: Foundations of the Hispanic World; Latin American Counterpoints: Cultural Representations of Slavery; Galician Connections: Culture and Identity on the Atlantic Rim; Subverting Dictatorship: Trauma and Resistance in Post-War Spain. Portuguese can only be taken at beginner level or post-GCSE level maximum. You will develop your linguistic skills by taking a language module in your first, second and fourth year. By the end of the course you will be expected to reach B2 standard (CEFR) in Portuguese (this approximates to A Level).
