The BA Human Geography degree scheme is aimed at students who know their interests lie in human geography. Students take human geography modules at Level One. At Levels Two and Three, students study compulsory modules (research methods, approaches to geography, field course, dissertation) that focus on human geography, and optional modules are selected from those covering human geography.

Course Overview

Fieldwork is an important part of our teaching on the BA Human Geography course, including an overseas field course in level two as well as fieldwork closer to home at all levels. Swansea have been succesfully training Geography graduates since the 1930s. We are one of the most well established Geography departments in the UK and, with over 30 academic staff, we are amongst the largest. I want to find another Bachelor Course Our well established reputation is noted by our excellent ratings for teaching, student experience and research. Our department is now the largest within the University's College of Science. We take in more than 150 students each year and over 60 postgraduate students are studying for PhD research degrees and taking our MSc course in Environmental Dynamics and MA course in Human Geography. We offer a lively, friendly and thriving environment in which to pursue a Geography degree. We offer numerous activities for work experience and internships and a dedicated programme of activities designed to enhance your employability.

You will be assessed through a variety of methods, including examinations, coursework, practical work, fieldwork and continuous assessment from tutorials. You will also complete a dissertation in Level Three.

Academic Requirements A levels: grades ABB-BBB or equivalent to include Geography or a related subject (for example, Sociology or World Development; Geology or Environmental Science; or an additional Science subject) BTEC: DDM plus A level grade B in Geography or a related subject Scottish Highers: ABBCC to include Geography (or a related subject) grade B Access to HE (Science or Humanities): Pass with Distinction (24 Dist to include 3 in Geography or a related subject, plus 15 Merits) Welsh Baccalaureate: Pass acceptable as equivalent to an A grade A level IB: 33-32 (including 5 in Geography at Higher Level) IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each component) or equivalent English test All applications will be considered on an individual basis, and we will look at the whole application when deciding whether to make an offer of a place, including: the balance, nature and quality of A-level, AS and GCSE subjects (or equivalent); personal statement and referee's comments. General Studies and Key Skills qualifications are normally excluded from our offers.
